About SBEM calculations

01

Where the model fits

SBEM is part of the National Calculation Methodology used for many non-domestic buildings. It can support Part L compliance work and energy certification, depending on the project and the approved route.

02

Build an input pack

Plans, elevations, sections, floor areas and intended use define the geometry. Fabric, glazing, heating, cooling, ventilation, hot water, lighting and controls define the energy model. Note which values are provisional.

03

Design and as-built are different stages

An early model can reveal specification gaps while design choices are still open. Completion-stage work must reflect the finished building and the evidence required for the relevant submission. Confirm deliverables with building control or the project team.

For exceptions and full requirements, read the official guidance ↗.

YOUR NEXT STEP

Request your SBEM calculations.

We review the property details and confirm the scope and price before work proceeds.

COMMON QUESTIONS

SBEM calculations FAQs

Is SBEM itself an EPC?

No. SBEM is a modelling method. A non-domestic EPC is a separate certificate that may use results from an approved calculation route.

Can you work from incomplete drawings?

A provisional brief is possible. Tell us what is fixed, what is changing and which stage needs a deliverable.

What information starts a quote?

Building use, approximate area, project stage, current drawings, services specification and requested outputs.
